Why Families Need Strong Men

Genesis 3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

I realize that the title of this article may evoke some curiosity. Someone’s ears might be standing up like a terrier’s even now. Some ladies are perhaps putting up their defense walls, while others are hanging out their “hope springs eternal” signs. Others may be asking what this subject has to do with an April article. The answer is quite simply, absolutely nothing! I just felt like writing the first thing that came to my mind.

Now, to begin this subject we must identify some things. First, men come in all different sizes, personalities, temperaments and upbringing.

There is no standard package that men come in. We labor under the same sin nature and inadequate life examples that ladies often do. Secondly, it takes a godly wife to help complete her husband. Leave us to our sin nature and we’ll neglect our families, for fun, friends or careers. Thirdly, strength is measured by our godly character and not by our physical prowess or stature, nor by the anger of our voices or reactions. Now the subject of strong men in the family is not popular in this post Christian, feminist, matriarchal society. Every social statistic points to the devastation of homes where there are absentee or spiritually and morally weak fathers. Fathers that are willingly absent from the homes and absent from supporting their children. This social disease is not just limited to absentee or the welfare fathers, but ones who are too busy or lazy to lead their homes.

Too often Sunday mornings rolls around and some unregenerate or backslidden father watches his wife do his job and take the children to church or pray. When it’s time to take care of the children by helping them bathe, eat, read the Bible, the lazy lug passes the buck again. No wonder we’ve slipped into a nation of pagans, heathens, and addicts. Dad is either too weak, or NOT ALLOWED to rule his family, so “big brother Washington” must step in.

So, ladies, step down or step aside and help, allow, or force your man to grow up God’s way. Let him be or make him the fulcrum of the family.

“Well, Pastor, why don’t you tell us what you really think?”

Ephesians 5:21-24 “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Ephesians 5:33 “Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.”

Ephesians 6:4 “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”
