Why Study Prophesy?

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh ex-pressly, that in the latter times some shall de-part from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

So what’s the big deal about prophesy?

In the New Testament there isn’t a whole lot of writings concerning prophesy. Ultimately it doesn’t greatly or directly effect our spiritual growth, does it?

Thoughts like the above have been expressed for centuries. For instance the great preacher C.H. Spurgeon when confronted by his contemporizes like D.L. Moody and others confessed his ignorance on the subject. He admitted that he hadn’t studied it much. His emphasis was on the great doctrines of the Bible of which Bible prophecy was low on the list. Unfortunately too many Christians have only a partial knowledge: or as my grandmother O’Connor “Nanny” used to say, “They have just enough knowledge to get themselves in trouble.”
Let me suggest a few reasons why prophesy is important to study.

First, there is a deep blessing promised to those who read with understanding the book of Revelation (Revelation 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.) I think that probably applies to all prophesy.

Second, it will increase our faith and admiration for our sovereign God. Another reason is that it will help our hearts and live prepare to meet God. This means we will always be convicted to make changes to our lives. Finally, I find the topic of prophecy is just extremely fascinating.

Now there have always kooks, cults and speculators. That doesn’t negate the truth. That’s why coming out to hear Brother Jimmy DeYoung is so important. We are going to daily be challenged to stretch our faith, our walk and our minds. We’re going to hear and see things we never knew or imagined.

I remember first hearing Brother DeYoung in 1980 while in Ft Lauderdale, FL. He was phenomenal then, and certainly more so today. So, mark down on you calendars Sunday, August 27th through Wednesday, August 30th. Invite your neighbors, workmates and friends. I promise you a blessing!
