BLESSED IS THE NATION

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.” Psalms 33:12

Psalm 33:12 is a powerful verse that speaks to the importance of faith and devotion to God in the life of a nation. The verse states that a nation is blessed when its God is the Lord, and when its people are chosen by God for his own inheritance. This verse has been interpreted in many ways over the years, but at its core, it speaks to the idea that a nation that is founded on faith and devotion to God is more likely to be successful and prosperous than one that is not. In its foundation as a country, the United States of America is one of those nations that sought to honor God in her core beliefs and practices.

One of the key themes of Psalm 33:12 is the idea of blessing. The verse states that a nation is blessed when its God is the Lord. Over the course of our Nation’s history, we have experienced many different blessings as a collective whole. This idea of blessing is central to the Christian faith, and it is often associated with prosperity, success, and happiness. When a nation is blessed by God, it is believed to be protected from harm and to enjoy a special relationship with God that brings many benefits.

The idea of inheritance in Psalm 33:12 is linked to the idea of legacy. When a person is chosen by God for his own inheritance, it is believed that they have a special responsibility to pass on their faith and devotion to God to future generations. This idea of legacy is central to the Christian faith, and it is often seen as a source of inspiration and motivation for Christians to live their lives in a way that honors God. Our West-ern American culture of Christianity for over two centuries has been one of quite a legacy when it comes to missions and get-ting the Gospel to the remainder of the world.

In conclusion, Psalm 33:12 is a powerful verse that speaks to the importance of faith and devotion to God in the life of a nation. The verse suggests that a nation is blessed when its God is the Lord, and when its people are chosen by God for his own inheritance. The verse also speaks to the idea of inheritance and legacy, suggesting that those who are chosen by God have a special responsibility to pass on their faith and devotion to future generations.

Overall, Psalm 33:12 is a powerful reminder of the importance of faith and devotion to God in the life of a nation, and it is a verse that Christians can turn to for inspiration and guidance in their own lives. As a Bible believing church, may we not be derelict in our duty to live our lives in such a way that our nation can experience the blessings of God in their lives.
