What Is A Family

What constitutes a family? You might be asking yourself why even ask that question? The answer is simple, the very structure on foundations of the family have been severely shaken in our age. This is particularly so in the formally “Christianized” West.

Genesis 1:27-28 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

A brief definition from a Biblical Judeo-Christian perspective is as follows: It is to be one man and one woman united in marriage officially by God and civil government. The family concept also includes children, if God blesses. This satisfies the reproduce/multiply/and replenish the earth mandate. This constitutes the “homogeneous” and family nucleolus. This would also include the extended family.

Since this is God’s definition and man-date, it then would stand to reason that all other modern practices are errant at best, or danger-ous to the continuance of society. For instance any unnatural or God forbidden relationships from the L.G.B.T. practices are not families. They are apostasies of God’s created design. Two men or two women living together are not mommies and daddies. Two people living to-gether (male & female) without the states official recognition is not a marriage but fornication, even if there are children.

It doesn’t matter what is popularly practiced or permitted. God, Man’s creator / designer is right. He will, in judgement, have the last say on modern society. Because much of marriage involves parenting (or grand-parenting) we should also know God’s way of parenting is best. We need to know as well how to parent and still have a good marriage relationship. In the absence of a spouse it is critical to be apart of a good extended family and local church. We must also be confident that God will be a father to the fatherless. If God’s goals aren’t ours then we will surely reap our own.

For this reason Tomah Baptist Church will be sponsoring a Marriage and Family Seminar this month that we know will be a blessing to our congregation.

Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Genesis 4:26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.
